David is an active freelance versatile drummer and percussionist in the Los Angeles area with a great passion for drumming and music in general. A key element of David’s approach is playing the right groove for the song. David has been playing for over 20 years and is the 6th kid of a music-loving family. He started playing his older brother’s drum kit at a very early age and his brother helped him with some early instructions which gave him a good foundation for playing drums. Influenced by his brother’s intensive record collection, David started listening to bands such as: King Crimson, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Weather Report, Rush, Chick Corea, Shadowfax, Deep Purple and many more. At age 13, David began attending Metronome Drum School in Israel studying Rock, Funk, Pop, coordination exercises and reading under David Rich’s supervision. The Metronome later became the David Rich Drum School. David continued intensive studying with Mr. Rich on Jazz and complex exercises.

After working locally in Israel as a drummer, David moved to England and performed with a few bands before relocating to the U.S. where he has lived for the last 16 years. After living in New York for a couple of years, and meeting some incredible musicians such as Kenwood Dennard and spending time at Drummer Collective, David moved to the NW area keeping busy with the local scene. Later on, he moved to California and has lived in the Los Angeles area since 2002. Since moving to California, he played on several CDs and performed with great musicians such as electric violinist James Sudakow, bassist Matt Bissonette, Zakir Hussain, L. Shankar and Gingger, bassist Tim Emmons, keyboard player Ron Snyder, cellist Jessica Catron, cellist Jen Kuhn and many more. David also performed and toured with his band, Human Life Index, which has opened for Steve Vai, King's X, EchoBrain, Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie), Lili Haydn (George Clinton), Apex Theory and more.

Most recently, David recorded drum tracks for the new solo release from James Sudakow called “Green,” which is great instrumental material with Matt Bissonette on bass. The CD is receiving national airplay and great reviews. “Green is a dramatic and exciting collection of instrumental songs that show just how scary a talent this violinist is. I for one would love to see him hook up with a hot guitarist and keyboard player, add in Gaziel and Bissonette, and you would have one of the most lethal fusion machines alive today.”

Personal note...

Growing up I was very much into sports and music which later on turned into music and sports. One of my older brothers used to play drums so it was kind of convenient for me to find interest in it and I completely fell in love with playing drums and dedicated most of my time to it. I started to take drum lessons at about 13 years old even though I picked up the sticks much earlier than that. I really enjoy practicing my drums and also the process of playing drum exercises that seemed difficult at once, but you just go to work on it and the first time you get it is truly magical. Generally speaking, I like it when musicians incorporate technique and melody into their music and I like it when they both meet, so you get the best out of both. For the last several years I dedicated most of my time and energy to my band, Human Life Index. We have played several live shows throughout the West coast but mainly in the Los Angeles area. Recently we released our first cd called "Welcome To" which is available on our site and also at CDBaby.com. I was also involved in some other projects such as recording with Jerk Parade. That was truly a pleasurable experience. The cd features James Sudakow on vocals/electric violin, Tim Myers on guitar and Matt Bissonette on bass and was produced by Eric Zimmermann. Thanks to Pork Pie Percussion for providing an awesome kit for this session. Most recently I recorded my drum tracks for the new solo release from James Sudakow, “Green”... great instrumental material which is receiving national airplay!!! The cd also features Matt Bissonette on bass. One of my favorite live shows to this day was performing on stage with Zakir Hussain in Austin, TX. He has always been an inspiration to me and he is truly a master of his instrument.

Thank you,
David
